If you decide to terminate your outsourcing contract, you may decide to transition some or all outsourced services back in-house (re-insource). It is important to evaluate the readiness of your organization to re-engage in processes that have been performed by an outside party for the past few years. There are likely physical requirements to evaluate such as office space and other infrastructure support in addition to the technology and tools needed to support this business process internally. The steps and considerations are the same as with recompeting a contract to a new provider, with these important differences:
- How has your organization become competitive in the areas where you are considering ending outsourcing contracts?
- Has a plan been developed to hire, train and prepare for this transition?
- Have the risks been identified in transitioning the work back to an internal team? What are the plans for business continuity?
- Have transition options been explored in the timing to return the work back in house? Do segments of the work need to come back over time? Do you understand the support you will need from your provider or outside transition consultants to migrate the work home?
